What to Expect on a Bosphorus Dinner Cruise
What the Turkish night show is, what the menu serves (vegetarian and halal too), the drinks, the photographer, tipping and what to wear on a Bosphorus dinner cruise.
Expect a cheerful, loud, three-hour evening: a meze dinner at your own table, a run of short dance acts on a stage in the middle of the saloon, a DJ at the end, and the floodlit shore of the Bosphorus outside the windows. Dress smart casual with a warm layer for the deck, bring your passport or ID card, and decide before you board whether you want the alcohol package. The rest of this page goes through the night in order.

The Turkish night show
The show is a variety programme, performed in sets between the courses. Each boat has its own line-up:
- Mega Lüfer Yachts (the private-table cruise): Turkish folk dances, a whirling dervish, Latin and flamenco numbers, belly dancing and a DJ.
- Turyol (the Turkish night cruise): an hour and a half of Turkish music and dance, then a live DJ.
- Istanbul Clue (the dinner cruise with drinks): “Katibim”, a classic Turkish song staged as a musical number; “Asuk Masuk”, a comic dance from the Taşeli area of Silifke in southern Türkiye, performed by two men; mixed folk dances; belly dancers; a Caucasian dance; and a DJ.
It is staged for an international audience rather than as a cultural performance, and recent guests describe it the same way: the dancers get the warmest reviews of anything on the boat, and several describe the night ending as a party on the dance floor. A few reviewers mention the belly dancer collecting tips at the tables. If you want a whirling dervish ceremony as a religious ceremony, that is a separate evening in the old city, not something a cruise offers.
The menu

On Mega Lüfer’s standard menu you get six cold Turkish mezes, a hot starter, then a main course of your choice (sea bass fillet, sautéed chicken with tomatoes and peppers, beef Stroganoff, or a vegetarian dish), served with mashed potato and rice pilaf, and seasonal fruit to finish. The VIP menu adds ten kinds of cold and seafood starters, two hot starters such as a vegetable pie and shrimp stew, a choice of beef ribeye, chicken, grilled seafood or pasta, and Turkish desserts with the fruit. The Golden Horn departure swaps the beef and chicken for a mixed grill.
Be realistic about it. The food is the part of the evening recent reviewers rate lowest: cold mains and plain starters come up often, and several guests wished for a Turkish dessert instead of a fruit plate. If you care about dinner, eat a late meze lunch in Karaköy and treat the boat as the show and the view.
Vegetarian, pescetarian and halal meals are offered on the three big dinner cruises; ask when you book so the kitchen has your meal ready.
Drinks and tips
Unlimited soft drinks, tea and Turkish coffee come with the base ticket. Alcohol does not: unlimited alcoholic drinks are an option you choose when you book (on Istanbul Clue’s cruise with drinks it is two drinks), and anything outside your package is sold on board. Tips are not included anywhere; waiters are often named in reviews, and a tip for good service is normal in Türkiye.
The photographer and the extras
A photographer works the saloon and photographs each table, and at the end of the evening offers prints and a bound photo book. Some guests love the book; others say it is expensive. You can decline it. On Mega Lüfer’s private-table cruise you can also book a birthday package (a cake, a mocktail and a birthday song for two) and a window, stage-side or VIP lounge table, each priced per person.

What to wear
There is no formal dress code: smart casual is right, and jeans are fine for both men and women, on the boat and in central Istanbul. Leave beachwear at the hotel. The saloon is heated, but you will want a jacket when you step out on deck to see the bridges: Istanbul’s average night-time low is about 14 °C in October and 4 to 7 °C from December to February (Turkish State Meteorological Service, 1950 to 2025 averages). Flat shoes are easier on deck and on the gangway.
Good to know before you go
- Bring a passport or ID card.
- Solo travellers share a table with other solo guests; the private table applies from two people.
- The boats are not suitable for wheelchair users.
- No suitcases or large bags on the Golden Horn boat, so do not plan it on your way to the airport.
